THE HEATER BOX

Figure 2
The EXO-FORMER 24’s integrated heating system is comprised of two
independent 1600 watt infrared heaters made with Mica insulating board and
Nichrome Ribbon (figure 3). Together the heating system has a total of 3200
Watts. The heaters utilize a proprietary heating pattern that concentrates
more heat around the perimeter of the HEATER BOX. This causes the
thermoplastic sheet to be heated more evenly.

Figure 4
Since infrared energy is the most efficient method of heating plastic, the
EXO-FORMER 24 has been designed to use as much infrared energy as possible.
The bare Nichrome Ribbon is extremely efficient at delivering infrared
energy. In figure 4 you see an enhanced view of the infrared energy being
emitted by the Nichrome Ribbon.
The advantage of using infrared energy when heating plastic is that it
allows the plastic to be heated directly and rapidly as opposed to the
indirect and slow method of convection heating which requires the air to be
heated first.
The HEATER BOX employs a stainless steel lining which is one of the best
materials for reflecting the infrared energy onto the plastic (figure 5).
Other machines typically use materials in their HEATER BOXES that are not as
efficient at reflecting infrared energy.

Figure 5

Figure 6
Installed above the Nichrome Ribbon is a protective wire screen that helps
to prevent accidental contact with the heating elements (figure 6).
Mounted on the side of the HEATER BOX are the two main POWER SWITCHES for
the two heating elements (figure 7). Both switches have indicator lamps
built into them so that you can visually verify that the heating circuits
are either on or off.

Figure 7
Underneath the HEATER BOX are a series of ventilation holes that allow cool
air to enter the heating system from below. This allows adequate circulation
and ensures that the heating system works safely and efficiently.
